Neighbors, the POPNA Board has been working with the city of Dallas over the past two years to upgrade and redevelop our coveted Arapaho Park. As a small neighborhood park, we are able to take ownership of this wonderful parcel of land and make it something very special.
City Councilman Lee Kleinman and the Dallas Parks and Recreation Board have been very supportive of our efforts. Collaborating with Dallas Parks Foundation, we have created a tax deductible conduit to raise funds for park improvements. The city of Dallas has earmarked $200k in matching funds to help get our project off the ground.
The sooner we raise funds, the sooner we can begin development. Design options will be posted to POPNA’s Facebook page as well as popna.org. We will most likely receive additional designs for the bidding process as the project develops. You can follow updates and donate today at www.arapahopark.com
POPNA is a very special neighborhood with a growing need for suitable playground equipment and space to gather as a community. Residents of all ages will benefit from this project and enjoy the improvements for many years to come.
Our goal is to raise $125k locally to procure a total of $250k. We are looking at National and State grants as well as personal and local business contributions.
In the coming months you will see yard signs & t-shirt sales, fundraisers and community events to help raise the necessary funds to complete the project. If you would like to make a donation today, please visit www.dallasparksfoundation.org
and select “Donate Today”. When you make your donation, please be sure to designate it towards the “Friends of Arapaho Park” in the optional drop down menu. If you would like to donate by mail, checks made payable to “Dallas Parks Foundation” with “Arapaho Park” indicated in the memo line, should be mailed to Dallas Parks Foundation 9540 Garland Road, Suite 381-117 Dallas, TX 75218.
Be on the lookout for fundraising events and a town hall meeting to review plans and options moving forward. We can’t wait to have a beautiful green space that will benefit generations to come, and we hope you are equally excited to join us in these restoration efforts.

Welcome To Our Community
POPNA is a neighborhood organization that represents the neighborhood of Prestonwood On the Park Estates. The borders are Hillcrest, Belt Line, La Cosa, and Meandering Way. Our mandate is to take care of the creek and provide social settings for neighbors to get together. We also offer communication apparatus for lost pets, neighborhood news, and crime watch with an active VIP, greetings for new neighbors, and condolences for families who have suffered a loss. We live here with you. We care about our neighborhood and we want you to be a part of our community and feel at home!

Here is a little bit of an overview of what POPNA does:
In 2017, POPNA replaced the street sign toppers, thank you to those who donated and voted on the redesign. We changed vendors to have a more consistent effort to keep the creek clean of debris. We also helped to organize a joint effort to have the brick trash areas removed.
In 2018, POPNA plans to work on efforts to update our park (Arapaho park). This will require neighborhood input and fundraising. If you are interested in helping, please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org. We plan to partner more with the Garden Club (PEGC). For more information on the garden club, visit the garden club page of our website, popna.org. We also will continue to donate to the garden club in memory of our neighbors who have passed away. We have made an effort to report light outages via https://www.oncorstreetlight.com/. We continue to recognize our neighbors with the Yard of the Month Program. We also hope to start participating in City of Dallas Park Beautification Program, It's My Park Day, but getting together to clean up our park and creek areas.
In 2017, POPNA added two new social events that were a hit - margaritas and tacos for Cinco De Mayo and a fall Chili Cookoff.
In 2018, in addition to the planned events below, POPNA plans to add a few block parties, but we need a block captain director and some other volunteers to make this happen. Please reach out to email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in volunteering. We plan to continue recognizing our neighbors with decorating contests and prizes for Halloween and Christmas.
In 2017, POPNA worked with the City to have the crosswalks at Hillcrest and Belt Line repainted. We have pursued speeding enforcement and efforts on La Cosa and Roundrock. La Cosa has obtained the needed signatures in order to pursue road humps and the city is currently reviewing. Roundrock still needs more signatures, if you live on Roundrock and are interested in obtaining signatures to continue the project, please email email@example.com. We have restarted Volunteers in Patrol (VIP), a neighborhood patrol program designed to reduce crime through increased cooperation between citizens and the Dallas Police Department (DPD). Citizen volunteers donate their time to patrol their neighborhoods by driving their own vehicles.
In 2018, POPNA will continue with VIP, Crime watch efforts, national night out and working with the City to improve areas of safety concerns. We hope to expand VIP, please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. You can patrol by car or by walking. We will continue to post information on our website popna.org, our Facebook group (POPNA) and on Nextdoor.
